The Committee on Peritoneal Dialysis created the “Primer on Peritoneal Dialysis” (previously called the PD Summit) to set the foundation on the basic knowledge of peritoneal dialysis.  This special course is specifically organized for Nephrologists and their potential PD nurses and prepares them on creating their own PD program and setting up a PD center in their areas of practice.  The committee was able to conduct a total of six (6) runs since this was launched in February 2018.  The pandemic may have interrupted this biannual conference, but this allowed us to restructure, update and create new training modules.

By 2022, the Primer on Peritoneal Dialysis is reformatted into a blended learning tool with three (3) months of on-demand access to the recorded training modules.  For our pilot run, this will be open to all Nephrology Fellowship Training Institutions – adult and pediatric Nephrology fellows-in-training, three (3) representatives from the training core of each participating institution, and three (3) potential PD nurses from each institution.  Towards the end of the 3-month access, there will be a scheduled live virtual supplemental activity on PD prescription writing and PD peritonitis management, and a live Question and Answer (Q&A) session via Zoom platform.  This will culminate with an online evaluation exam after the Q&A session.  The virtual skills demonstration and return demo on manual (CAPD) exchange will be conducted by the PD Nurses of Baxter and Fresenius. The training institution will need to pre-register for this activity so that the training materials will be sent to them prior to the scheduled demonstration.

Participants who completed the training modules attended the supplemental activity and Q&A session passed the evaluation exam, and performed the return demonstration will be given the certificate of attendance with corresponding CPD Units.

The first run starts on January 20, 2022, and ends on April 20, 2022.  May I request Dr. Ricardo Francisco, Head of TPAB, to endorse and announce this to all training institutions for both Adult and Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship Training Institutions? We would appreciate it if the participating training institutions will be able to submit the names and email addresses of their attendees on or before January 15, so that we can send them their online access.
